"Pay attention to rejection slips."


• If an agent or publisher has taken time out to write you a personal letter, it shows that they are interested in your development and have seen talent in you. Read their advice and watch out for the same point being repeated across letters. It means you should definitely take on board their suggestions.
• Recognise the difference between simply writing for passion and writing for a living. Being a writer requires organisation and most of all dedication. Stick at it and eventually, someone will give you your break.
• Lastly, keep a record of all your relevant expenses. Your expenses can be tax deductible for several years and include everything from clothing to magazines bought in research.
