New Writing
Annual anthology of new literature in English from the UK and the Commonwealth, subsidised and administered by the British Council and published by Granta. Provides one of the few opportunities in the UK for unknown writers without an agent to get published by a leading fiction publisher. Writers discovered or first published here include David Mitchell and Trezza Azzopardi.

Pulp Net
High quality, monthly on-line literary magazine full of original work, interviews with high-profile writers, news and all sorts besides.

Glimmer Train
Aside from being one of the best anthologies of short fiction from new and established writers, publishes twice-yearly newsletters with practical, thorough advice for writers.

Short FICTION
Literary magazine dedicated to short fiction; contributing editors include Ali Smith, Toby Litt, Mike McCormack, Helen Oyeyemi, and Rattawut Lapcharoensap. Submissions of under 5000 words welcomed.

Poets & Writers Magazine
Print and online edition with videos, podcasts and forums. Covers everything from inspiration to publication.

Mslexia
The magazine for women who write, with advice on forms from short stories to journalism and writing for children.

Notes from the Underground
London’s creative writing freesheet, aiming to provide the best in new short stories, cartoons, poems and non-fiction. Aims to be a platform for new and emerging writers and want to see your work. Print version is read by over 100,000 people and countless more online.

Fifth Estate
A collective blog from the editors and authors at Press Books. A place where writers can go to post opinion and debate, try out new material, and where readers can fight back on all the issues that interest them.

The Digitalist
A blog by the digital publishing team at Pan Macmillan publishers.

The Penguin Blog
The official blog of Penguin books UK.

Faber and Faber
Site of one of the last great independent publishers in the UK. Includes the print-on demand service Faber Finds, an ever-growing list that aims to make available once more a wealth of forgotten or overlooked classics. Find an out of print book on their backlist and they will print it for you.

Galleycat
Blog about the book publishing industry. Contains US publishing job listings.

Brave New World
Topical items and views on the impact of digitisation on publishing and its content and the issues that make the news.
