Prizes and competitions

These major national prizes and competitions may be of interest to new writers. Even if you don’t win, your work may be read.

The Society administers the The Olive Cook and Tom-Gallon Awards for a short story, The Eric Gregory Awards to British poets under the age of 30 on the basis of a submitted collection, The McKitterick Prize for a first novel by an author over the age of 40, The Sagittarius Prize for a first published novel by an author over the age of 60 and The Betty Trask Prize and Awards to authors under the age of 35 for a first novel, published or unpublished.
